It seems that the newscrews that went to report on Team Legato’s departure from Bristol got more than they were bargaining for.

The journalists were only supposed to sail as far as Falmouth in Cornwall but with a force seven blowing, skipper Tony Bullimore, refused to put in to Falmouth. He told the stunned newsmen it was too dangerous and they would have to continue with his ten-man crew to Barcelona in Spain. And despite their protests the 101ft catamaran Team Legato headed out across the storm-lashed Bay of Biscay. Their journey became a nightmare as the gale worsened to force nine.
