The premier event in the Singapore Sailing’s calendar attracted a record entry of 282 entries, an increase of 27% when compared to last year’s entries. Four races were run over light to medium wind.

103 children competed in the Optimist event. As usual, the parents were even more excited then their children. Quite a number of them were at the beach with binoculars and mentally recording their children performances. Yuan Zhang and his good friend, Alvin Chong, was tied at the top with 6 points each. However, Yuan Zhang won after the tie-break.

The girls nominated the Topper event. Jill Chen and Helena Lee came in first and second respectively. With their results, their school, Tanjong Katong Girls’ School won the School Team event.

The Laser event was keenly fought. The race officer had to raise the black flag in the first race. Last year’s winner, Stanley Tan was edged out by eighteen years old Seng Leong. The first two races saw Seng Leong starting badly but he managed to recover to finished first. The veteran, Alexandre Nikolaev dropped out of the medal contention after getting two OCS.

Roy Tay and his partner, Dahui won the Open Dinghy event, sailing in the 420. They were competing with other 420, 470 and Laser II.
