The General Assembly of the Federazione Italiana Vela (FIV) took place in Genoa, at the Sheraton Airport Hotel on Saturday the 24 February, the main item on the agenda being the election of the new Council which will helm the Federation until the Athens Olympic Games of 2004.
In accordance with a recent national law regulating the structure of the various sport steering bodies, for the first time five active sailors and three sailing instructors were elected in addition to the sixteen regional councillors. The election procedures were performed with a new electronic system, which worked very well.
More than 500 Clubs affiliated to FIV were represented, by their own President or by proxy. Sergio Gaibisso was elected to lead the FIV Council for a fourth term. Sergio also sits on the ISAF Council.
