Biography
Lauren Wilson (formerly known as Lauren Bernsen) began sailing at 7 years old in Sabots at Coronado Yacht Club in Coronado, California. She quickly moved to the Laser and European Dingy and was nationally and internationally ranked. She is a two-time winner of the San Diego Association of Yacht Clubs' Paul J. Hartley Junior Yachtsman of the Year award (1999 and 2001) and the Yacht Racing Union of Southern California's Youth Excellence Award (1999). Among her accomplishments are: -- 2nd Place at the 1999 Junior Olympics in the Laser Radial; -- US Youth Worlds Team and attended Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship in Crozon-Morgat, France in 2001 - 16th Overall. -- Laser Radial Worlds in Barcelona in 2001 -- Member of the US Sailing Olympic Training Team and 8th place finisher in the Europe Dinghy in the Athens Pre-Olympic Regatta in 2002; -- Member of the California International Sailing Association ("CISA") clinic for 5 years (1998-2002). -- In 2000, she secured third place at the US Junior Women's Singlehanded Championship for the Nancy Clagett Leiter Trophy. -- Raced for the University of Southern California varsity sailing team both in CFJs and as a single-handed sailor from 2002-2006. -- Recognized as a promising young sailor in 2001 by Sailing World magazine. -- In 2018, after a brief hiatus, she returned to competitive sailing as the tactician for the Beneteau 36.7 class yacht Melokia, leading the team to victory at the Southern California Yachting Association's Midwinter Regatta. She also secured 5th place at the 2019 San Diego NOOD Regatta in the Beneteau 36.7 class. -- In 2024, she returned to competitive Laser Radial/ILCA 6 sailing and has since achieved: -- ILCA North America, Florida Masters 2025: 1st in Apprentice Division, 1st Female, 16th Overall. -- ILCA North America, Masters Midwinters East 2025: 1st in Apprentice Division, 1st Female, 22nd Overall. -- ILCA North America, California Masters 2025: 2nd in Apprentice Division, 2nd Female, 5th Overall. -- ILCA North America, Midwinters West 2025: 22nd Female, 57th Overall. (15 World Sailing Points) -- ILCA North America, D24 Championships 2025: 5th Overall, 1st Female. -- ILCA North America, North American Championships 2025; 33rd Overall -- ILCA North America, Pacific Coast Championships 2025; 5th Overall, 3rd Female. -- Sailing Grand Slam/Olympic Class Regatta Long Beach 2025; 43rd Overall.
