Scoring - How Does It Work?
Sailors score points which relate to the position they finish each race. A race win gets 1 point, 2nd gets 2 points, 3rd gets 3 points and so on.

The results from each race are added together to decide the final positions. The Low Points Scoring System applies so the sailor with the lowest score wins.

There are 15 'opening races' and a 'final' (16th race).

If fewer than 5 opening races are completed there are no discards.

If between 5 and 10 opening races are completed there is one discard.

If more than 11 opening races are completed there are two discards.

The final (16th) race cannot be discarded.

In sailing, a race score that isn't added to the overall points is called a 'discard'. In Singapore, the final race must be counted by all sailors in their total points - the final day will be a real nail-biter!
