A talented tactician and helm, Bill Hardesty is accustomed to fleet and match racing success. The American was tactician on-board Ninkasi at the 2013 Melges 20 World Championship in Florida, USA where he claimed the class' first world title. Hardesty then steered a hard working young team on Line Honors to glory at the 2014 Etchells World Championship, sealing the deal with a day to spare as he picked up his third World title in the class. As tactician, Hardesty has also been pivotal to Ian Williams' triumphs on the Alpari World Match Racing Tour as they finished second overall in 2013 and took Match Race Germany honours in May 2014.

What inspired you to take up sailing?

I started at a very young age with my father on a Hobie 16.

What was the first boat you ever sailed and how old were you?

Hobie 12, age 4

Hobie 16 San Diego Classic Regatta. 1983

What are your future sailing goals?

America's Cup, more one-design sailing, family offshore sailing and cruising.

Who has had the greatest impact on your sailing and career and why?

Vince Brun has been my mentor. My first job cutting sail numbers at the sail loft to pro sailing.

Jimmy Spithill

What other sports do you enjoy?

Paragliding, surfing, biking and scubasquash

What does being nominated for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards mean to you and how would you feel if you were voted the winner?

This is truly the highest award in sailing that is not specific to any one event. It's a real honor.
