During 2007 Franck CAMMAS and his Groupama
team have taken on with relish some of the world's toughest speed records together with the ORMA Championship. The first challenge for CAMMAS and his crew onboard the 105ft trimaran Groupama3
was the Discovery Route, otherwise known as the Columbus Route. The record had stood since 2003 but after a fantastic crossing from Cadiz, Spain to San Salvador in the Bahamas, Groupama3
took 2 days, 2 hours, 31 minutes and 25 seconds off the record.
Next on the list was the Miami to New York record which had stood since 2001 but CAMMAS and his crew completed the 947 mile hop at an average speed of 27 knots to claim their second record of the year. From New York, the team returned to Europe, taking on the Atlantic record and setting a blistering pace from day one. At an average speed of 28.65 knots, CAMMAS made the crossing in just over four days and also picked up the outright 24 hour speed record in the process, setting a new mark of 33.08 knots.
Also competing for the ORMA Championship on Groupama2, the team's 60ft trimaran, CAMMAS finished on the podium at all of the events they entered, with victory at two of them. Downsizing even further, the Groupama team also took on the Extreme 40 fleet at the iShares Cup event in Marseille, France where they finished second.
