| Detail the personal highlights of your sailing career to date |
My two gold medals; the first one at the World Championship in the Europe dinghy in 1992 and the latest (but not the last?) in the ISAF Women's Match Racing World Championship in 2003. |
World Championship - Gold |
My absolute greatest memory is when we took the gold medal in Sundsvall, Sweden this year. Overall this has been a great year with good results |
Every regatta won is very special, but to win in the World Championship 2003 - THAT was something!!! |

| Briefly state what sailing means to you |
Sailing to me has been a lifestyle. When I sailed the Europe dinghy for the Olympics in 1996 it was a 'full time' lifestyle. Now that I combine it with a full-time job it is a very important way to fulfil my lie, to get away and compete and win and not even think about my every-day life. |
A fantastic lifestyle in a sound body and soul, meeting with wonderful people and living close to nature, which can never be beaten |
Everything. It gives me great pleasure to be a part of a team and to work together for high goals. |
It means a lot of different things. It can be family-time, relaxing, it can be a romantic sailing trip with my fiance. But lately it is the matchrace sialing, the exciting situations, that really gives me my 'kick of adrenalin'. It is my idea of having fun. |
| Who has had the greatest impact or inspiration in your sailing career and why? |
My family, who for may years travelled with me all over the country and in the world to compete in smaller and bigger events. |
I was the only girl competing in sailing for many many years, which was not always easy and I was about to give it up for other sports, but my mother taught me that I could do whatever I set my mind to. So I guess it has to be her. |
Iin my club KKF there has always been a great atmostphere and the older sailors took good care of us younger ones and accepted us in their gang. That gave a nice feeling and drove us to sail more. |
Myself. I always continuted to sail, and loved it, although my boss, my family and many of my friends advised me not to. |
| Who do you consider to be your sailing hero? |
Difficult to say but it will have to be my father. He is the person I know who is most dedicated to sailing. He loves it! |
I am too old to have heroes… |
My cousing Tonny NYREN was a good Finn sailor and his excitement for training and hard work makes me want to name him as a hero! |
|
| What other sports do you participate in outside of sailing? |
Dancing, scuba-diving, hiking, yoga, skiing and ice-skating. |
Mostly outdoor sports. I do a lot of alpine skiing, and since 5 years, white water kayaking is the adrenalin of my life. |
Skiing, aerobics and running. |
all kinds of raquet sports, canoeing, skiiing, mountain biking….. |
| Who do you consider to be the greatest sailor in the World and why? |
Another difficult question, but Paul Elvström is a sailor I admire because he has sailed and won in many different classes. Also he has sailed and been successful with his daughter. |
I have no idea…Columbus for his braveness? Or all around the world sailors for their braveness in south altitudes and for keeping the team spirit under the toughest conditions. But the most brilliant sailor in boat speed, boat handling, tactics etc I have to say a match race sailor. And the greatest matchrace sailors are the ones who have the opportunity to sail fulltime, i.e. a man. |
I think that Fredrik LÖÖF is the greatest because he shows time after time that he is a world champion. It doesn't matter which boat he sails, he can still make great results. |
|
| Briefly state what being nominated for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award 2003 means to you |
It is a great honour to be nominated (the second Swede ever nominated). It feels great to know that the fantastic results me and my team has had this year has been acknowledged and that Women's Match Racing 'counts'. We fight hard to get our professional lives and sailing careers together, and the nominations adds a lot to the feeling - 'it's worth it'. I also strongly feel that this is not just a nomination for me, it is a nomination for the whole team, Kim Kulstad, Åsa Aronsson and Linda Yström, and the extraordinary teamwork we have. |
We've had the most fantastic year and I feel both pride and happiness htat it has been acknowledged, it is a principle step for women matchracing that it counts outside our little 'wimra-world'. |
It is an honour to be one of the nominated teams beause there are so many great sailors in the world |

| If voted as the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year 2003, briefly say what will this mean to you? |
First of all, I will be extremely happy and proud for my team and me! It will also mean that we have proved that it is possible to combine full-time jobs and sailing on a high level. It will make me strive for victories and hopefully participate in the Olympics again. |
First, I would cry of happiness and pride for days. After that, I suppose we will plan for the future. Hopefully this award will help getting better sponsor contracts and my dream to be a fulltime sailor is getting a little bit closer… |
It would be the biggest thing a sailor can ever get!! It's an acceptance for all the hard work through the years we have been sailing together, since we are girls with full-time jobs! |
I will be extremely happy and proud for my team and me! |
