Sari MULTALA (FIN)Aside from a brief dip to number 2 on the ISAF World Sailing Rankings, Sari has been ranked as the world's number 1 Europe sailor throughout the past year.

Sari has topped the Europe World Rankings throughout the last 12 months except for a brief spell at number 2 in February 2002. She took the European title in July and has not finished outside the top 4 in any of the graded events she has entered.

Detail the personal highlights of your sailing career to date Winning my first International Regatta (Youth Europeans) in 1997, the World Championships in 2001 and winning the 2002 Europeans with almost a perfect series.
What are your future sailing aspirations? Participating in the 2004 Olympics and winning a medal, and then succeeding in other olympic/offshore classes.
Briefly state what sailing means to you It's a way of life and a means to develop my skills to become better and better as a sailor and as a person.
Who has had the greatest impact or inspiration in your sailing career and why? I can't name only one person, but all the former Olympic medallists are an inspiration. Fellow sailors, my parents and my coach.
Who do you consider to be your sailing hero? Ellen MacArthur and Isabelle Autissier to name two and many Olympic medallists.
What other sports do you participate in outside of sailing? Floorball

Who do you consider to be the greatest sailor in the World and why? There are too many to name only one
Briefly state what being nominated for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award 2002 means to you I'm very honoured and pleased. Actually I'm a little astonished to be nominated for the second year in a row!
If voted as the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year 2002, briefly say what will this mean to you? It would be a great recognition for my sailing achievements and also my country. It's not often a Finnish sailor receives such an honour.
