US Sailing's Rolex Yachtsman & Yachtswoman of the Year Awards ceremony returned to the iconic Model Room at the New York Yacht Club in Manhattan to celebrate the sailing accomplishments of Terry Hutchinson (Annapolis, Md.) and Stephanie Roble (East Troy, Wisc.).
Victory in the fourth leg of the Volvo Ocean Race was so close that Dongfeng Race Team skipper Charles Caudrelier (FRA) could almost taste it on Thursday, but with just over 500 nautical miles (nm) to go, he was taking nothing for granted.
In recognition of her offshore successes, including in May 2000 winning the two-handed Transat AG2R Trans-Atlantic race from Lorient, France to Saint-Barthelemy, Caribbean, in a fleet of 42 Beneteau Figaro One-Designs. In August 2000, Karine finished eighth in a fleet of 49 boats in the 1500-mile Figaro Solo single-handed race held in four stages from Archachon to Bilbao to St Nazaire to Falmouth via the Fastnet Rock to Falmouth finishing in Cherbourg.
