South Africa's Asenathi Jim and Roger Hudson wasted no time to get back to Men's 470 racing after London 2012 and were on the circuit at ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne in December 2012.
Taking in ISAF Sailing World Cup Palma and currently racing at ISAF Sailing World Cup Hyères, they have a full quadrennial to tackle in their preparations for Rio 2016. The pair were rushed into a London 2012 campaign that lasted just 18 months before they qualified for the Olympic Games at the 2012 470 World Championship.

The team is now settled and Jim is enjoying getting the ball rolling nice and early, "It's quite nice because we are learning together and the team is building and going forward together. He's [Roger] has got a lot of experience racing wise and we learn a lot of technical stuff. I'm learning a lot from him and he's sharing the experience he has with me so I kind of have a team mate coach with me on board so it's quite nice."

At the mid-way point in Hyères the pair are in the Men's 470 silver, not somewhere they had hoped to be, "We are kind of disappointed with our week but after two days of light we didn't make the gold fleet," said Jim. "We're not the only ones so it was a bit of a hard one. The fleet is tough as always but the learning curve is still going up."

Jim's journey began in 2003 and ten years on his future is looking bright, "I started sailing in 2003 in Simonstown. There's a school called Izivunguvungu which was started by Ian Ainslie in 2001. Some of my mates started sailing and that's how I got involved and from there I met my team-mate in 2009 and we started training in different boats and in 2011 we launched our 2012 campaign and for now we're looking forward to Rio 2016."

Jim and Hudson currently sit 39th overall at ISAF Sailing World Cup Hyères ahead of compatriots Ricky and Brennan Robinson, who are 56th.
