2012 London Olympic Games
Weymouth and Portland, Great Britain
Indian Laser Radial sailor Rohini Rau is aiming to become the first Indian woman to sail at an Olympic Sailing Competition.
, who is currently sailing at the sixth ISAF Sailing World Cup Regatta
at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, Great Britain, is hoping to be back at the venue in 2012 for the Olympic Sailing Competition.
If she qualifies for the Olympic Sailing Competition at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, Rau is hoping more Indian women will follow suit.
"There are not many women who sail back in India," said the 24-year-old. "Hopefully if I get into the Olympics I can spearhead more women to get into the sport.
"I've been sailing since I was ten. It is an amazing sport and I really love it."
With her unbounded enthusiasm and drive Rau has won the Indian Laser Radial Championships for seven consecutive years. She is also another beneficiary of the Perth 2011 Emerging Nations Programme and believes the camps have put her in good stead leading up to the ISAF Worlds.
"I've been to four of the Emerging Nations Programme camps and it's definitely boosted my confidence," added Rau. "The camps focus on fitness and sailing. It was a perfect blend of both as I got really fit and upped my sailing as well."
