Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne looks set to turn on a smorgasbord of breezes for the second day of ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne.
In the three locations monitored by Predictwind.com the forecasts are shown as being significantly different. That story is repeated in the general forecasting issued for the City.

Conditions off Sandringham are predicted to be much lighter than Monday's fresh hot northerly with light winds from a southerly direction and temperatures in the high teens, a drop of almost 20 degrees.

The breeze is expected to stay around 9-12kts for most of the day, increasing slightly in the early evening.

Further off the coast of Sandringham and a little to the south of the regatta venue, it is a similar story, but with slightly stronger breezes in the 10-18kts range, whilst at Melbourne Airport, to the north and a little inland, a fresh north westerly breeze is predicted with temperatures in the mid 30's on the weather menu.

Real time observations point to lighter winds consistent in strength and direction to the predictions for Sandringham and Port Phillip and a cloud bank has rolled in which should hold the temperatures down.

Conditions on the water are expected to be very testing for the sailors which could produce some roller-coaster results. All ten Olympic events will be sailing today, along with the two Paralympic classes and most of the Invited classes.

Scheduled to start at 12:00 are the Nacra 17, Men's RS:X, Women's RS:X, Skud18, 2.4mR.

Check out Nacra 17 sailors Lisa Darmanin (AUS) and Jason Saunders (NZL) previewing the day ahead here. http://youtu.be/ZpP9yiGe6ac

At 15:00 the 49er, 49eFX and Kiteboards will start their regatta with the 470 Men, 470 Women, Finn, Laser, Laser Radial taking to the water for races 3 and 4.

The invited classes, Laser Radial Men, Laser 4.7 and Viper fleets wll also be in action.
