Switzerland's Nicolas Rolaz has been crowned 2014 Optimist World Champion after a strong week of sail boat racing in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Championship includes two competitions - an open competition and a youth competition.
Each team consists of three crews of two competitors and each team must include a minimum of one female competitor. All team members entering the Youth Competition must be under 19 years of age on 31 December 2011.
All races will be on Schull Harbour from the Fastnet Marine & Outdoor Education Centre with excellent spectator opportunities ashore. The centre is located on the western edge of Schull harbour just five minutes walk from the village of Schull.
As a sailing destination, Schull's location on the South West coast of Ireland benefits from the Gulf Stream current which maintains the region's sea temperaure at relatively mild levels allowing year round sailing. water temperature during the event period would typically vary from 12 to 14ºC while wind prevails from the South West at an average of 11 knots. Weather conditions can vary at the end of summer with typical air temperatures of 13 to 21ºC.
