The ISAF Athlete Participation Programme will be funding three sailors from Cuba in 2008. The Federcion Nautica de Cuba hopes that competing at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship will be a fantastic opportunity for the sailors to gain experience and bring back knowledge from competing at an International level. This in turn can not only help those attending the Championship but also the aspiring sailors in Cuba.
Jose BETANCOURT KOKOREVA (CUB) is Cuba's hope for the Boys One Person Dinghy and Jose has already achieved some significant results at National level. He also uses his time to coach younger members of the team and so the attendance at the Youth Worlds will benefit a number of people. Jaimet RUANO VAZQUEZ (CUB) is the youngest sailor Cuba is sending to Denmark. The Laser Radial is an up and coming piece of equipment and it is hoped that the experience from the Championship will bring her tactical knowledge up to the high standard that her technique shows. The APP funding means that she can attend the event and gain some invaluable experience. Rogelio RIVERO BAYOLL (CUB) is Cuba's hopeful for Windsurfing, at 15 years he has already proven his dedication to the sport and the APP funding which he has been given has meant that he will get his first opportunity to compete at the Youth World Championship.
