INMARSAT L-Band EPIRB
Updated: 15th March 2006
INMARSAT are to withdraw their INMARSAT L-Band EPIRB Service (INMARSAT-E) from 1st December 2006. The majority of Type E sets are used in AUS, GER, NZL and NOR, with around 780 registered to yachts in these countries.
INMARSAT have cited the reason for the withdrawn being the uneconomic nature of the system compared with previous systems in more widespread use.
From 1st December 2006, all current 'type-E' users will be given free 406 MHz replacement beacons.
