Incident Reports

World Sailing is committed to raising the standard of safety in the sport.

Safety is an important aspect in sailing. World Sailing focuses on two key areas:

  • The rules governing the design and use of equipment which aim to ensure the safety of sailors which can be referred to as ‘safety equipment requirements’.
  • The educational aspect; promotion of safety awareness contributing to the development of safety standards for gear and safety policies for classes and event organisers.

World Sailing analyses incidents received by the World Sailing Safety Panel, through the Incident Reporting system. Recommendations are made to the relevant bodies within World Sailing to develop safety procedures or corrective actions where appropriate.
