Report from ISAF Match Racing Umpiring Seminar, Buenos Aires, Argentina, December 2-6, 2009
Federacion Argentina de Yachting and Yacht Club Argentino hosted an IU seminar in Buenos Aires last week. The seminar included two days of classroom sessions, December 2-3, and three days of on-the-water umpiring, December 4-6 ,at the Campeonata Argentino national match racing championship. ISAF thanks both organizations for hosting the seminar.
The match racing event was sailed in J-24 boats provided by Yacht Club Argentino. The race committee included Alfredo Bafico as PRO and several others. ISAF thanks them for making the event possible and for running it very competently.
There were 12 delegates from Argentina, Bermuda, Brazil, Spain and Uruguay. Their efforts and contribution made the seminar a great success. They worked hard in the classroom part and did a great job as umpires in the match racing event. There is good reason to believe that ISAF will soon have several new IUs as a result of the seminar.
Flavio Naveira was the coordinator of the seminar. He participated in the seminar and in the match racing event. He and the employees and volunteers of Yacht Club Argentino are owed many tanks for their work which made the seminar possible. The instructors were Sally Burnett (GBR) and Jan Stage (DEN), with competent support from Flavio Naveira who was also the local instructor.
