Equipment & Guidelines

The current status of equipment selected for use at the future Paralympic Sailing Competitions is as follows:

Single-Person Keelboat – 2.4mR through to the 2008 Paralympic Sailing Competition. Evaluation was carried out in 2007 and 2008 on equipment for the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competitions.

Two-Person Keelboat – SKUD18 through to the 2012 Paralympic Sailing Competition. Commencing in 2010, evaluation is to be carried out on equipment for the 2016 and 2020 Paralympic Sailing Competitions.

Three-Person Keelboat – Sonar through to the 2008 Paralympic Sailing Competition. Evaluation was carried out in 2007 and 2008 on equipment for the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competitions.

The IFDS Equipment Evaluation Commission is being given the task to evaluate equipment for the Paralympic Sailing Competitions. With regard to the 2012 Paralympic Sailing Competition, equipment is being evaluated for the Single-Person Keelboat and Three-Person Keelboat events.

The IFDS Executive Committee has appointed the following members to the Equipment Evaluation Commission:

John TWOMEY (IRL) - Chairman
Gustaf FRESK (SWE)
Bruce KIRBY (USA)
Greg OMAY (AUS)

Members have been chosen based on skill, experience and contribution.  The concept was to create a small group of experts rather than a large body of representatives each with their own special interests.  From a communications standpoint, conference telephone calls, emails and occasional face-to-face meetings are expected.  Funds are of course limited so communication via email is typically preferred. Any face-to-face meetings necessary are planned around existing events to minimize or eliminate any costs.
