This section of the website has been developed in order to evaluate methods for a future online certification system and measurement database.

ISAF are developing a web-based certification database and are trialling the system. The overriding aim behind the project is to make it simpler for sailors to get their equipment certified and get racing. By developing a central and broad-ranging system that every class can use, and integrating this with the existing ISAF Sailor, Rankings and Results system, it should be easier for sailors to compete in events and improve the ability of ISAF, ISAF Classes and ISAF MNAs to manage their administrative functions.

The online certification system would be non-mandatory but the potential benefits include:
• Centralised sharing of data of ownership of boats and equipment and measurement data.
• It will be easier to track equipment, allowing equipment inspectors quick and easy access to certification forms at events for example.
• Reduction in class and MNA administrative function and record keeping in this area.
• It will tie and help Classes, MNAs and ISAF work together for the mutual benefit of the sport.

The process would allow MNAs, owners, measurers and builders to download appropriate certification forms for completion of the necessary information. They would then email the form back to Class, MNA or ISAF for the processing and inclusion into the appropriate class database. The system could then be integrated into ISAF sailor such that an individual sailor could put their information in once and it could be made available to the necessary body as required.

As part of the development process, ISAF has created a demonstration version of the Online Certification area. A number of trial forms have been posted below for a fictitious “Alpha Class”. ISAF is inviting classes and MNAs to evaluate the system by using these forms in the context of their class and provide feedback to the ISAF Technical Department for further development of the system.
