In winds of up to 25 knots and gusts of up to 28 on high seas, competitors enjoyed completely different conditions on Sunday to those of the rest of the competition thus far. As suspected, the lead has changed again and pre-Olympic medal favourite Paul GOODISON (GBR) reclaimed his lead of two days ago following race 6.

The British sailor did not win race 6, but a seventh place finish was enough to put him three points in front of Athens 2004 Olympic bronze medallist Vasilij ZBOGAR (SLO). It remains incredibly tight at the top of the leaderboard with just 12 points separating first to 10th place overall.

Julio ALSOGARAY (ARG) is the one GOODISON and any others with their eyes on gold will have to watch. The Argentine nabbed victory in the very light air race 1 and on Sunday won in the heavy winds of race 6 that came complete with big waves. He is back in third place overall and only four points off the lead, making the 2008 World Championship runner up a dangerous opponent. Tied on points with ALSOGARAY are Frenchman Jean Baptiste BERNAZ and Sweden’s Rasmus MYRGREN.

Saturday's top two, Diego ROMERO (ITA) and MYRGREN did not do so well in the conditions and fell to seventh and fifth respectively.

Three races were to be conducted on Sunday but due to poor visibility only race 6 was held. Race organisers sent the fleet ashore and competitors waited to hear their fate. By 15:50 they were told to go home.

"I was hoping they would hold at least one more race. I was enjoying the big conditions," said Rutger VAN SCHAARDENBURG (NED), 18th in race 6, his best result of the series so far. While many agreed, others found it hard work after losing weight - and with the weight goes the energy expended to keep the boat upright.

Three races are scheduled for Monday to complete the Laser Opening Series.
