Teams may use the two set of sails provided by the OA (jib and spinnaker). Coaches are not allowed to bring the spare set on the water.

The strategy for course usage at the Olympic Games aims to balance a number of objectives:

- To deliver the best possible spectator experience, particularly for the Nothe which is the ticketed viewing area;

- To provide each Event with television opportunities, recognising that the Nothe and Harbour courses are expected to be
the most filmed locations;

- Retain excellent racing for athletes.

There are a number of features resulting from the course allocation, in particular:

- Events will rotate across different course areas during the Competition;

- There may be more than one Event on the Nothe and Harbour course areas in one day.

Course area assignments may be changed during the day if weather differs from that originally forecast.

The approach is similar to that trialled successfully at the Olympic Sailing Test Event, the Weymouth and Portland International Regatta 2011. The 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships in Perth also utilised the same principles.

In accordance with Notice of Race and SI E4.8, each Elliot 6m will be provided with two jibs and two spinnakers for their use during the competition.

1. Teams will collect the two sets from Elliot 6m container. The time for the collection will be posted on the official notice board the previous evening.

2. Sets will be returned either to the maintenance boat or the container after the last race of the day.

3. Sails of the teams not racing in the first flight or spare sets may be stored on the maintenance boat during the day.

4. Teams will chose which jib and spinnaker are using during the day. No changes are allowed unless there is damage and the equipment inspector approves it.

5. Policy to replace jibs and spinnakers:

a. Pin holes or rips less than 100 mm: the sail is changed, repaired on the water with tape and ready to use if necessary.
b. Rips bigger than 100 mm: the sail is removed and sent ashore for over night repair.

6. If the two jibs or spinnakers have to be removed, the team will be given the use of a spare jib or spinnaker without branding for the rest of the day. These sails are not new.

7. Main sails will be allocated by the OA in accordance with a pre-determined sails" rotation.
