| The Medal Race is the final race for each event and will decide the 2008 Olympic medallists.

An Exciting Finale
Only the top 10 boats take part after the opening series (i.e. the ten boats with the lowest series score) and this is the final chance for dreams to be made or hearts broken.
The Medal Race course for each event is positioned to provide maximum excitement for the spectators and with a race time of just 30 minutes it is a thrilling finale to the competition.
Double Points
The points scored in the Medal Race are doubled so the boat finishing in first place will score 2 points and so on. This makes it even more exciting because if the points between the 10 boats are close after the opening series, a good position in the Medal Race is even more crucial.
If there is a points tie at the end of the Medal Race, the final places are awarded according to the actual finishing positions of the boats.
Any disputes about broken Rules are decided immediately by Umpires watching the racing on the water so the winners will be known as soon as the race finishes.
