In total 400 sailors will compete across the 11 events of the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition. As the host nation, China automatically qualify for a place in each event, with the remaining places decided through a qualification system. Qualification is worked out on a national basis, it is then up to the individual National Olympic Committees (NOC) to decide which sailors they want to represent them at the Olympic Sailing Competition.
