Flying Fifteen World Championships 2005

Auckland, New Zealand

Nick and Janet JERWOOD (AUS) have won the Flying Fifteen World Championship in Auckland. Second-placed Charles APTHORP and Alan GREEN (GBR) could only manage 17th place in the final race to finish four points behind the Australians.

Nick and Janet JERWOOD failed to finish the final race but secured the title thanks to the lowly placing of their nearest rivals, APTHORP and GREEN. It was the JERWOOD's consistency that won them the title with the Australian duo only once finishing outside the top ten and twice out of the top five.

New Zealand pair Aaron GOODMANSON and Alister ROWLANDS gave the home fans something to celebrate by taking victory in the the final race to make it two bullets on the trot and to safeguard their third position.

GOODMANSON was delighted with the result: 'We had a great lead-up to this regatta and we're pretty stoked with the result. We went to Adelaide for the Aussie Nationals in January and finished fourth there, and then had a good build-up regatta with a fifth at the New Zealand Nationals last week... Our aim was to try and finish in the top ten in all of the races. Really the wind came in for us a little too late. We were hoping for stronger breeze, but it only came in the last couple of days.'
