Laser North American Championship 2004
Wesport, Connecticut

Competitors at the ISAF Grade 1 2004 Laser North American Championship hosted by the Cedar Point Yacht Club do not have the weather on their side!
More than 150 Lasers, Laser Radials and Laser 4.7s are registered to compete in the championship which concludes tomorrow but so far no races have been completed.

Racing was due to get underway on Wednesday but due to the lack of wind the race committee were forced to cancel all racing. Yesterday was not much better and the lack of wind was combined with thunderstorms. Some of the competitors occupied themselves with some exhibition team racing and all will be hoping that today dawns better.

The competitor list is primarily made up of sailors from the USA and Canada but also includes sailors from Bermuda and Australia. As a Grade 1 event competitors will be all the more keen to complete some racing and notch up those all important ranking points. A glance at the list of registered competitors shows there are some high calibre sailors at Cedar Point including the top ranked Canadian Laser sailor Bernard LUTTMER who sits at number 28, Trevor HAMILTON at 70, Andrew LEA at 72 and Conner HIGGINS at 79. Of the American entries Zach RAILEY is the highest ranked sailor at 60.

Hopefully racing will get underway today and all the latest news can be found on the event website via the link below.
