Following input from the ISAF Match Race Rankings Sub-committee and the Bermuda Sailing Association, ISAF has put forward a range of proposals designed to evolve the way the ISAF World Match Racing Rankings are calculated.
Proposed changes include alterations to the grade multipliers, which will specifically increase the value of the ISAF World Match Racing Championship and ISAF Grade 1 match racing events.
As anticipated reduction in any Eurocentric tendencies that the rankings may develop in the future, there are also proposals to change boundaries for which regional competitions are graded in order to increase the number of regional events worldwide.
Much direct change in the rankings is directly related to the relationship between the first year of scoring regattas, and the second year of scoring regattas. It has been proposed that the multiplier for the second year of competition (the oldest year) be changed from 3 to 2, this would add more weighting to the most recent 365 days of competition.
As well as these two proposals there are suggested changes to the bonus factor, bonus points, event invitations and qualifiers, prize money, as well as formats, the number of competitions and media provision.
These proposals and other suggestions will be discussed at the Match Racing Committee meeting on Sunday 7 November in Copenhagen at the ISAF Annual Conference. Feedback and further suggestions are welcomed to
