It is with great sadness the Romanian Yachting Federation reports that Gheorghe 'Ica' Constantin, our former President and ISAF Long Service Silver Medal recipient, passed away on Friday 02 July 2010 and was buried on Sunday 04 July 2010.
Constantin always had a love of the sea and he had a very long career as a sailor and finally he was awarded by the Romanian Minister of Sports the title Master of Yachting in Romania.
Along with his success as a competitor and also as a coach, Constantin played a significant role in the administration of the yachting, on a local, national and international stage (in 1967 he started together with his Turkish, Greek, Bulgarian and Yugoslavian (at that time) friends, The Balkan Sailing Championship a traditional event which is still running today).
He served for many years as head coach of the Romanian national sailing team, chairman of the competitions and regulations subcommittee of the federation and finally as president of the Romanian Yachting Federation from 1992 to 2008.
In 1991 he had received from the Romanian Minister of Sports the Coach Merit Award for his work as a coach. In 2008 he was awarded an ISAF Long Service Silver Medal.
Constantin passed away on 2 July 2010. Romanian Yachting Federation extends our sincere sympathy and condolences to his daughter Cristina.
