Olympic Solidarity (IOC) collaborates with ISAF on Training Scholarship Courses

The Olympic Solidarity Department of the IOC has recently agreed to collaborate with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) on its new Training Scholarship Courses.

Created by the ISAF Training and Development department with Training Partner Rockley International, this eight week course is designed for existing coaches, giving them the additional skills needed to run and develop a National Sail Training Programme in their home countries.

The IOC Olympic Solidarity department (OS) may support funding applications for the new ISAF course under the Olympic Scholarship's Sport-Specific Training Option for Coaches, which forms part of their World Programme for Coaches. ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs) who wish to apply need to approach their National Olympic Committee (NOC) and request the relevant OS application.

The Scholarship course can also be funded whole or in part through private sponsorship or in conjunction with existing private / MNA or NOC funding.

The new Scholarship Course was piloted in early 2010, supported by the South African NOC.

Rob Holden, newly appointed National Training Manager for South Africa said:
"The information given to me during this Scholarship course will enable us to change the face of sailing in South Africa. With the support of ISAF the development of our new training programmes will increase sport participation and strengthen our sailing culture. I am sure that other countries will benefit from this innovative new scholarship."

The next ISAF Training Scholarship will start on the 6 September 2010. Places are already filling up and any MNAs wishing to put forward participant applications should contact their NOC as soon as possible to be in with a chance of securing NOC / OS funding or apply directly to the Training Provider, Rockley International if using private funding.
