BRÆSTRUP Defeats BJÖRLING

Ladies Cup 2005

Skovshoved, Copenhagen, Denmark

Home favourite Nina BRÆSTRUP (DEN) triumphed over ISAF Women's World Match Race Rankings' number one, Marie BJÖRLING (SWE) to take victory in the ISAF Grade 3 Ladies Cup last weekend.

The event saw top women sailors from three countries battling at the Royal Match Race Centre on the waters outside Skovshoved, Copenhagen, Denmark.

ISAF Women's World Match Race Rankings' numbers one, three and five where in the field of competitors with crews from Sweden, Germany and Denmark. The event was sailed in the special designed match race boat, the 'DS-37'.

Newcomer to Match Racing Susanne WARD (DEN), a four time Olympic 470 skipper, finished in fifth place overall, with her highlight being victory over BJÖRLING (SWE).

After 42 matches the winner was the local favourite and ISAF Women's World Match Race Rankings' number five, BRÆSTRUP, who improved on her second place of last year by losing only one match on her way to overall victory. BJÖRLING finished the tournament in second place with Malin SVEDMYR (SWE) taking third spot.
