Training and Development News

Safe. Enjoyable. Lifetime. Learning. Dan Jaspers, ISAF Training and Development Manager, provides an update on the resources available to ISAF's Member Nations to boost sailing participation in your country.
Over the last seven months, the ISAF Training and Development Department has been working hard to develop and simplify the way in which it offers support and provides resources for ISAF's Member National Authorities (MNAs).

"One of the key areas for development has been within the training courses ISAF offer. With worldwide participation in the sport of sailing being under increasing pressure due to other seemingly 'more accessible' sports, ISAF has been looking in ever more detail at how it, as an International Sport Federation, can offer its members the tools to overcome this trend," explains Dan Jaspers, ISAF's Training and Development Manager.

Safe. Enjoyable. Lifetime. Learning.

The ISAF Learn to Sail Training Programme (LSTP) offers every ISAF MNA a way in which to develop the sailing culture in their country. The aim is to both increase the number of young people and adults that take up the sport for the first time, and also to keep sailors putting back in to the sport for their entire life, building a legacy for the nation as a whole.

The ISAF Connect to Sailing initiative and its Project Planning Document are there to help link all sides of the sailing industry together in order to build strong foundations for this sailing culture. The support of the industry in promoting sailing as a lifetime sport is a cornerstone of Connect to Sailing's aim to develop grassroots sailing worldwide. These important projects are all part of ISAF's commitment to existing Member Nations to grow the sport and make it accessible to everyone.

Technical Courses For Coaches

ISAF has designed three types of course which any MNA Coaches can take part in order to fully understand how they can use the S.E.L.L. principals within their sailing clubs and training centres. The courses focus on specific delivery techniques to introduce all levels of sailing in a way that is tailored to the individual participant.
