However for LINDBERG this was not to be his year, in the semi final he came up against 2003 winner, RAHM, and it was the home sailor who prevailed taking the match two-nil. The other semi-final was an all Swedish affair and on paper looked like an evenly matched tussle with ISAF World Match Race Ranking's number 16, Björn HANSEN going up against number 19, Johnnie BERNTSSON. Indeed it was a close fight but BERNTSSON edged it and moved into the final thanks to a two-one victory.
For RAHM 2003 had been a successful year, not just with victory here in Gothenburg, but also a place in the ISAF World Match Race Ranking's top twenty which he held until October 2003. Positioned at 24 in the rankings of 23 March 2005 victory here in this ISAF Grade 3 event could once again see RAHM back in the exclusive top-twenty.
With HANSEN taking third place and an all Swedish lineup for the final the script was going exactly to plan for the home fans. And it got better with Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club's RAHM defeating BERNTSSON in the final to win the Ice Breaker Cup 2005.
The highest placed women was Linda RAHM (SWE) who finished sixth overall.
