GREGOIRE was following MORVAN closely before dropping back sharply this morning to be replaced by CAUDRELIER and Eric DROUGLAZET (FRA) in third. At the 0900 hours GMT poll it was DROUGLAZET who had the wind in his sails. He is just one mile from second place and sailing faster than both the boats in front of him.

Seventh place Sam DAVIES (GBR) on Skandia is another of the fleet's place setters. At 10.6 knots she is the second fastest boat in the fleet and sailing over two knots faster than the boats around her. Since the last position report she has gained 3nm on the leader and is now within 30 miles of MORVAN.

According to DAVIES the tactical part of the race is beginning: 'There is a decision as to how far south to go as we pass the Azores, it is the first real tactical decision of the race, and even though the Azores are a way away, I need to start to plan the approach now, so I have been working a lot looking at the weather forecasts and routing models.'
