International 470 Class Association News

To cater for the increasingly professional nature of sailing today, the International 470 Class Association have announced the contracting of long time 470 administrator, Yalcin GURKAN (TUR), to the post of Management Committee Secretary.
GURKAN, who has been a member of the 470 General Council for over twelve years and acted as the Sports Responsible Officer, accepted the position on 6 April at a Management meeting in Milan.

The appointment, made possible in part by a ISAF Olympic Class Administration Grant, will see GURKAN working as a day to day basis administer dealing with entries to major 470 Events, reporting financial matters, communicating with the 70+ countries in the 470 family and publicizing and covering racing and news from all 470's major events, including the growing Junior events which are now attracting 120 teams from 25 Nations.

International 470 Class Association President, Darren DUNKLEY-SMITH (AUS) said 'Yalcin has a wealth of knowledge of Sailors, Teams, Coaches and Event Management, as well as being an International Judge. With over 40 professional teams on the 470 circuit and 38,000 boats in 70+ Nations Yalcin will be a great asset to the Class but to sailors also.'
