Last year's Tornado World Championship in Palma de Mallorca, Spain was won by Argentinean, Santiago LANGE and Carlos ESPINOLA, with Olympic silver medallists, John LOVELL (USA) and Charlie OGLETREE in second place. Double Olympic gold medallist, Roman HAGARA (AUT) finished a distant ninth and will be looking to improve on that result this time round. 2003 World Champion Darren BUNDOCK took third place with crew John FORBES (AUS).
This year the competition looks set to be fierce with HAGARA sure to want to prove his ninth place last year was just a blip on his highly impressive record. At the same time he will be aiming to regain the top spot of the ISAF World Sailing Rankings he had held since December 2004, before LOVELL crept in above him at the last ranking release of the 30 March 2005. LANGE finished in third at the Olympics in Athens, behind HAGARA and LOVELL, and in defending his title he will be keen to prove he can still hold the upper hand over these two rivals and return to the number one spot in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings that he occupied for a couple of months last year.
The NOR and Entry form can be downloaded from the International Tornado Association website and the Tornado World Championship website. The deadline for submitting Entry Forms before late fee is applied has been extended to 15 April 2005.
