Day One in Palma

Europe European Championship
Palma de Mallorca

Some of the top names in the class have made the trip to Palma including Sari MULTALA (FIN) who will be looking to defend her European title and maintain her position at the top of the ISAF World Sailing Rankings for the women's single handed dinghy.
It will be far from easy though and the results from the first two races seem to suggest that her strongest competition will come from the other side of the globe. Current leaders, whilst obviously not eligible for the European title, but a good form guide leading up to the ISAF World Sailing Championship in Cadiz, are Sarah BLANCK (AUS) and Sarah MACKY (NZL).

The fleet is split in the early stages of the regatta, and as usual a series of heats are sailed before sailors are seeded into the all important Gold and Silver Fleets for the finals.

Second in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings, Siren SUNDBY (NOR), is perched just behind the Southern Hemisphere two in third place and presents a real threat to Multala's defence of her title.

It is still the very early stages of the regatta and racing continues until Friday with no lay day. All to play for in the ever important build up to Cadiz.

The non - Olympic men's fleet sees 83 boats competing for the continental title and is currently being led by Manuel JIMENEZ (ESP)

Full results for both the men and women are on the event website at the address below.
