Flying Junior World Championship
Muiden

More than halfway through the Championship, it is the Japanese sailors who are dominating the fifty-three boat fleet, having between them won 6 of the 7 completed races.
The leading Japanese crew of Hiromi SAITOU and Hikaru DEWA hold just a 5 point margin over their chasing team mates Yasushi KONDOU and Akihiko AKUSTU, who in turn sit one point ahead of Bernard STIENSTRA and Dieuwke DUK (NED). These three crews are dominating the fleet and hold a significant eight point lead over the fourth placed crew. Judging by the consistency in their results to date, it is highly possible that it will be the same three crews who claim Championship titles come the final day on Friday. But, with one more discard coming into place once 9 of the scheduled 12 races are completed, change could still be afoot.

The Flying Junior World Championship is held every two years, with the reigning champions from 2002 being Kenta SHINGO and Satoshi KOMURA (JPN). This duo currently sit in sixth overall and whilst it looks as though a successful defence of their title is unlikely, it would appear that Japan will still lay claim to the World Championship.
