In August, Gdynia, Poland will become a capital of sailing stars. 400 competitors will come to Gdynia to take part in the fourth edition of Idea Gdynia Sailing Days
The ISAF Grade 2 and 3 Idea Gdynia Sailing Days is one of the greatest sailing events in the Middle Europe. Why? The answer is simple. The regatta attracts sailors from the whole world. Almost 1300 sailors from 22 countries took part in the previous editions of IGSD.
The main event of the regatta is the World Cup in all Olympic classes: 470, 49er, Europe, Finn, Laser, Mistral, Star, Tornado and Yngling. However, the competitors do not come to Gdynia only in order to get the Cup points. What becomes a magnet for them is a good organisation of the regatta, fantastic atmosphere and ...the money! This year, the competitors can win much more, comparing to the previous editions. The total prize money comes to 50 000 euros, which equals around 220 000 PLN.
A lot of competitors from countries such as Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Italy and Great Britain, will enter the regatta. Strong national teams are also expected from following countries : Russia, Belarus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary and Ukraine. Polish 'sailing stars' will be present as well. Among the best racing sailors in all Olympic classes, invited to the fourth edition of IGSD, there are Mateusz KUSZNIEREWICZ (Finn), Monika BRONICKA (Europe), Przemysław MIARCZYNSKI (Mistral M), Agata BRYGOLA (Mistral W), Tomasz STANCZYK and Tomasz JAKUBIAK (470 M).
IDEA GDYNIA SAILING DAYS is also the only sailing festival in Poland that unites the yachting circles. Next to the Olympic champions taking part in the competitions, there will be the Offshore Yachts IMS, 730 - National Polish Class and Splash class. Every year there is also a hard struggle among modellers. This time, they will fight for the European Cup in Radio Controlled Boats Regatta in Marblehead class.
The sailing festival in Gdynia is the best of its kind since sailing fans can celebrate it both on the water and ashore. There will be an opportunity to watch the competitors' struggle either from the cruise ships or on big screens placed in the marina. Moreover, the sailing festival is accompanied by various entertaining events such as concerts, discos, karaoke, fireworks and Frutti di Mare Festival. Great fun waits for competitors as well as the spectators and other guests of Idea Gdynia Sailing Days.
This year's regatta will be widely broadcast in media. Reports from the course areas are to be provided by TVP (Polish TV), RMF FM - radio station, Rzeczpospolita daily newspaper and Wirtualna Polska (Polish portal). For the first time this sailing event will be also broadcast on EuroSport in Sailing World programme.
The title sponsor of the event is IDEA - a operator of dual band GSM network.
