St Moritz International Match Race
St Moritz

The final day of the ISAF Grade 3 St Moritz International Match Race offered another great day of sailing with excellent matches and a big crowd ashore following the event.
The fast-turning small boats, the complexity with spinnaker and trapeze, the good breeze and the attractive winner's price money inevitably created a very heated atmosphere. The umpires were more than busy.

Based on the performance in the races so far, Murray JONES (SUI, Alinghi) and Jesper BANK (DEN, Victory) were the favourites for the finals. But the young Mark MENDELBLATT (USA, OneWorld), who joined the finalists through the repechage, not only defeated Jesper BANK (DEN, Victory) in the semi-final, but he also succeeded in beating the "local" favourite Murray JONES in the final. Thierry PEPONNET (FRA, K-Challenge) won the petite final against Jesper BANK.
