J/22 World Championship
Porto San Rocco

Den ENGELSMAN (NED)is leading the J22 World Championship being held in Trieste. North-east winds between 20 and 30 knots gave the teams plenty to worry about with strong gusts and waves; it was a hard and demanding competition.
One day before the end of the event, organized by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano and Porto San Rocco, the strong Dutch sailor (once first, twice second and twice third) Den Englesman is leading the championship, followed by his country mate Nic BOL on Catalotolo (12 points: twice first, once sixth and once fourth, and once twentieth rejected) and by the Dane Kim KRISTENSEN.

Italy gained excellent standings in the last two races yesterday: the couple Lorenzo BRESSANI and Vasco VASCOTTO, on Kaster, have moved up to fourth place, thanks to a fifth, a sixth and a second place. Gabriele BENUSSI is fifth helming on Banca Bsi, after obtaining a fourth, a fifth and a first place in yesterday's racing.

Genoa's Andrea Casale on Mina Vagante drops to eleventh position. The World Championship title will be awarded today, when three more races will be held (last possible start at 4pm) and the wind should calm down. The championship is still open, the first five teams stand within 13 points and between the first and the second there is a gap of only 4 points.
