Yachting New Zealand has come up with an enterprising way to raise some money for purposes including the promotion of Yachting Participation, Development of Young Sailors, Development of future Olympic sailors and Coach Development.
Yachting New Zealand says ticket sales open to New Zealand and international buyers and available until the 25 May. On 1 June a draw will be held for the very significant prize of a Z39 One Design keelboat worth NZ$470,000. The yacht will be delivered to the winner';s nearest yachting venue within New Zealand.

Tickets are limited to 3300 and cost only NZ$200 each. Purchasing ten tickets earns an extra ticket free.

Proceeds from the lottery will go towards a number of Yachting New Zealand initiatives including:
o Purchase of Measurement equipment for National Rating System
o Safety Inspectors National Conference and Training
o Development of PHRF National Database and provision of Software to Clubs
o Regional Safety Awareness.
o The promotion of Amateur Yachting Participation
o Development of Young Sailors
o Development for future Olympic sailors
o Coach Development

The Z39, by Bakewell-White Yacht Design took out the Yachting New Zealand One Design Competition run by Yachting New Zealand in conjunction with the Keelboat and Offshore Racing Committee in 2003. A panel of 7 judges deemed all ten entries in the competition to be of excellent quality however, they felt the Bakewell-White design best matched the design brief. Yachting New Zealand called for a Monohull Keelboat which was suitable for a New Zealand National One Design class, between 11.5m - 12.5m in length, suitable for offshore racing, with the ability to be owner driven while also fitting the bill for the family holiday.

Tickets can be ordered from the Yachting New Zealand website -
