USA Dominate Silver Fleet

Sunfish World Championship
St. Maarten

At the end of racing yesterday, eight of top ten spots in the Silver Fleet of the 2003 Sunfish World Championship in St. Maarten were earned by experienced Team USA.
Dan KARNOVSKY leads the standings in the Silver Fleet, followed by Tony ELLIOTT, Woman Racer Jean BERGMAN in third place. Stephen SMEULDERS, Wayne IURILLO, and Sean FIDLER rounded out the American clean sweep of the top six spots.

Alberto ABREU of the Dominican Republic sailed good races to finish seventh. Paul ADEGAARD of the USA was eighth and Jaapt HOEN of Curacao finished ninth with Martin OTTENHEIMER of Team USA coming tenth in the standings. Jean BERGMAN, wife of Gold Fleet racer Don Bergman, represented the women in the top ten.

At the end of racing on Wednesday, Malcolm SMITH of Bermuda led the Gold Fleet, followed by Cor Van AANHOLT of Curacao, and Hank SAURAGE of the USA. The Gold Fleet sails again on Friday.

Racing concludes on Saturday with Gold in the morning and Silver in the evening at which time the World Champion Sunfish Sailor will be decided.
