Open 60 Round Britain Will Start From Calais (FRA)

Open 60 Round Britain Race

Following the withdrawal of sponsor EDS, the Chamber of Commerce of Calais, Challenge Business and Royale Production have announced that the Round Britain 2003 race for fully crewed IMOCA Open 60 monohulls will now start and finish in Calais.
The race, which will leave from Calais in July 2003, will be a unique occasion to highlight the privileged position of Calais as a gateway between the British Isles and the European continent.

The Calais Chamber of Commerce are delighted to be supporting the event. Royale Production who run ORMA 60ft trimaran circuit and the Route du Rhum will be the organiser of the event.

Challenge Business and Royale Production have worked closely together, with representatives from IMOCA, to secure the success of this inaugural event which is part of the 2003 IMOCA championship calendar.

In the coming weeks, Royale Production and the Chamber of Commerce of Calais will be working closely with the IMOCA class representatives and all other parties involved with the event in order to finalise all details of the Race organisation.

Philippe Facque, Royale Production's CEO comments: "I think that this race will be exciting for the Open 60 monohulls and their crews. We thank IMOCA for their trust in us to reach the standards set by Challenge Business for this event and will put in our best efforts to carry on the work initiated by Challenge Business. We thank the Chamber of Commerce of Calais for their renewed involvement with us into sailing."

Anne-Marie Wood of Challenge Business added: "Although we were disappointed by the withdrawal of EDS regarding this event, we are delighted that Calais are supporting this fantastic race with opportunities both in France and England. We look forward to working again with the IMOCA Class and the Open 60's in the future."
