2003 Nations Cup
Trieste

Great sailing returns to Italy for the anticipated Nation's Cup 2003, the match race event in the city of Trieste, Italy, from today until 21 of June.
Six out of ten of the syndicates which participated in the last America's Cup, in Auckland, will be participating including the Swiss of Team Alinghi, of the industrialist Ernesto Bertarelli.

A straordinary race that has come to the fourth edition, which will reunite the top sailors in the world in the waters off the coast of Trieste on board of the two identical Open 55' Tuttatrieste, designed by the same yacht designer of Mascalzone Latino, Giovanni Cecarelli.

A unique formula- in an exclusive stage- in which teams will be able to exhibit themselves. Among these teams, including the above mentioned Team Alinghi, headed by the many time Olympic winner Jochen Schuemann, are also the Americans of Oracle Racing with the Italian Tommaso Chieffi, their fellow countrymen of OneWorld with James Pithill-John Kostecki, the Swedes of Victory Challenge driven by Magnus Holmberg, the English of GBR Challenge with Andy Beadsworth and the Italian team of Mascalzone Latino with the local talent of Vasco Vascotto with Flavio Favini, the duo which will lead the Italian team in the next America's Cup.

The organizers of this great event symbolizing the America's Cup, are the great leaders of "Tutta Trieste!", which are headed by Federico Stopani, with the support of the Yacht Club Adriaco, the local Port Authoritiy, the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Province and city of Trieste, the sponsorship of the Generali Insurance, TNT Traco, Heineken, Montecarlo Radio, Harken Wear, Mittel Moda, Fondazioni Cassa Risparmio Trieste and Trieste Expo 2008. These will also offer the public numerous collateral events in the area of the Heineken Green Village which is in front of the old Maritime Station, an area which will also host numerous VIP's and famous athletes. On Saturday the 14th a special concert will be given to the public with an exhibition of the Spanish Jarabe de Palo, awaiting the numerous fashion parades, and a surprise ending which will only be revealed during the event.

This is obviously not just a sailing event but an opportunity for even the non lovers of the sport to enjoy the entire experience; there will be music every evening from 6 o'clock to midnight. For those following the sailing event, there will be bleachers with front row seats to see the match racing, in Round Robin formula and which will be seen on RAI 2 television every night with exclusive images from both on board and on the water.
