Two Man Battle in Bonnaire?
No ALT tag specified

PWA World Tour

With the Bonaire freestyle finals just weeks away the race for the men's title looks like it is going to be a two man battle between fellow JP, Neil Pryde team riders Robby SWIFT and Ricardo CAMPELLO.
As it stands, both riders have equal ranking points following two events in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, so the final event on the sun drenched beaches of the Caribbean will decide the title! PWA spoke to Ricardo and Robby to see how their last minute preparations are shaping up:

Q: Which one of you is going to win the title?

Ricardo: "Well if we'd know already we would not have to compete, I will do my best to win…last year I was pretty close"

Robby: "I would like to say me but the truth is that you can never tell. I will be training really hard but we all know how good Ricardo is when he puts it all together, so we will just have to wait and see on the day!!!"

Q: What has your training schedule been for the event?

Ricardo: "I am not training any more than normal so when I come to the event I keep what I didn't sail to sail in the event"

Robby: "I have had a bit of a rest from freestyle since Fuerte. I hurt my foot there in the super cross and so have been a little tentative to try any radical moves. I have been wave sailing a lot and so have still had a fair bit of time on the water! I am going out on the 15th Nov to start my on the water freestyle training. Other than that, just at the gym as usual!"

Q: Have you got any new moves in the pipeline and what are they?

Ricardo: "I actually have one new move but I hope to show you in Bonaire and also some new variations".

Robby: "I haven't really been on the water except for wave sailing so no new ones from me yet!!!"

Q: Who are the other guys to watch out for in Bonaire?

Ricardo: "Everyone, Kauli and the Bonaire guys and also Collin"

Robby: "Obviously all the Bonaire locals, especially Tonky and Taty. Kevin Mevissen sails really well when it is like that as do Cheo, Alexis, Diony, Kauli and Colin Sifferlen. I am sure that there are loads of others that I have just forgotten about too. It will be hot competition!"

Q: With so much at stake are you getting nervous as the time approaches?

Ricardo: "No not at all, I try not to think about the event too much and that makes me that I am not nervous!"

Robby: "I don't think that it is near enough for me to be getting nervous yet. I am sure I will have a few butterflies before and during the comp though!!!"

Q: How much kit do you take to such an event...how many boards, sails, masts?

Ricardo: "This year I will be ready with every board and every sail for the place, about 4 boards and almost all the sails".

Robby: "3 Boards, 5 sails, 8 masts, 6 booms"

Q: What will you do to celebrate if you do win?

Ricardo: "I "HOPE" to party with my friends and call all my family! If that happens I will for sure be the happiest man on the planet! Jejeje!"

Robby: "I haven't really looked that far ahead yet, but judging by my Fuerte celebrations and last year in Bonaire, I would think that I will not be in bed before midnight, lets put it that way!!!"
