Day Four
South American Windsurfing Championship
Buenos Aires
With the tide pushing to the South east against the wind which was gusting 17 knots, race 4 started in a short steep chop. Marcos Galvan (ARG), Mariano Benitez and his brother Martin Benitez (ARG) took the left hand side of the course.
Marcos was in control of the two brothers who were having a battle royal for supremacy. It was all down to judging the tide correctly on the up wind and thus not overstanding the windward mark. Finally, Mariano passed his brother so conclusively that Marcos was under pressure on the last downwind. However he hung on to take the line first.
Mariano is likely to be selected for the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Madeira, Portugal later in the year so this is all good training. In the meantime, this continental championship is being used as a qualifier for the Pan American Games at the beginning of August.
Sadly the squad from Chile were overwhelmed by the conditions today. They fully appreciate the amount of work that needs to be done and appear committed !
