DN Ice Yacht World Championship
Lake Champlain, New York

After 2 days of racing on the frozen lakes of North America, Karol Jablonski (POL) has regained the World Ice Yacht Championship title he won two years ago, by a three point margin over Thomas Karlsson (SWE).
Raced using a different format than sailors in the wetter form of ice would recognise, the location of the championship is described in their notice of race as the North American Eastern Lakes Region. This is to ensure the explicit conditions required for this kind of sailing are found during the duration of the regatta. A hotline was set up to give sailors launch sites and times of races, essential as the region is about the same size as France!

In the end only 2 days of racing were to be completed, giving six races, with one discard and a valid championship. Racing was held on Lake Champlain in Northern New York state.

127 Competitors were split into Gold Silver and Bronze fleets and Jablonski, who finished second in last years championship held in Estonia, posted a consistant scoreline to become World Ice Yacht Champion.

Jablonski is well known on the World Match Race Circuit, he currently leads the ISAF World Match Race Rankings and counts the City Match ISAF Match Racing World Championship last year in Sweden as another of his many accolades.
