Volvo Musto Optimist National Championship
Weymouth

302 Young sailors are currently taking part in the Volvo Musto Optimist National Championships in Weymouth, Great Britain. With the high pressure still firmly over the South of England, light variable winds again dominated on day four.
Two sailors from Lymington are fighting it out for first place in the Senior fleet. On Tuesday, Robbie CLARIDGE scored three bullets; and yesterday Greg CAREY was on form finishing with a 1,2,2 score line to retain his lead overall.

Although Robert CLARIDGE won the second race by a huge margin, a large wind shift on race three left him in 28 place. He now trails Greg by thirteen points overall with the first discard in play.

Charles MAKEPEACE (12, Bowmoor Sailing Club) continues to dominate the junior fleet; fifteen points clear of his nearest rival Matthew RAINBACK (13, Poole).

Still in touch with the leaders Lucy De BOLTZ (12, Corinthian Otters) is currently in fourth place overall and first girl.

Three races are planned for today (Thursday) for both Senior and Junior fleets.

Seventy young sailors aged between six and eleven are sampling their first taste of racing this week in the Regatta fleet, today they raced across Weymouth Harbour for a picnic lunch.

This evening's entertainment for the 302 young sailors is a Caribbean beach party and pig roast.

The Volvo and Musto sponsorship of the Optimist class includes the National, Inland and End of Season Championships as well as the GB Optimist World and European Championship teams.
