J24 World Championship
Medemblick

With a race to spare Italian Lorenzo BRESSANI has won the 2003 Worlds. On Thursday the wind was around 15 knots from the southwest. Two races were scheduled.
In the first race the British boats looked very promising after the start. Mark JARDINE, David ELLIS and Duncan PEACE were sailing all in the top three. Albert KOOIJMAN was in seventh at the first windward mark but he was beginning a rush forward.

Kooijman played the small shift perfect and soon was on top of the 66-boat fleet. By winning the first race he made it four in a row. It was however Lorenzo BRESSANI who did a good job by finishing fifth. A good result in the second race of the day would mean he would be the new champion.

In Race two the wind was getting a bit stronger so several boats changed to their jibs.
It was the Japanese boat Santa of Takagi who had a good start and passed the first mark in front. He fought a battle with Andrea CASALE'S Fiamma gialla. Casale was eventually the stongest, finishing first.

Bressani took third place, ensuring emphatically that he was crowned victor of the 2003 World Championships with a race to spare. The race for second will be a very close one. Four boats will be competing for the silver medals today.
