Light On Day 2

Laser II World Championship
Hoorn

70 boats have gathered at Hoorn on the Markermeer and we are now five races into the championship. The weather on day two dawned misty with the promise of sun and a thermal breeze. The sun arrived but the thermal breeze never materalised.
Race 1 on the second day of racing was started with the reigning world champions Kevin TEBOREK (USA) showing they have not lost any boat speed in the past 2 years.

The thermal wind lost it's battle with gradiant breeze resulting in no wind on the race course and the race committee made the only decision possible and abandoned the race. There followed a long wait for the wind to settle again.

Race 2 was started in about 6 knots of wind after a couple of attempts and a black flag which gave some sailors an even longer wait. Nigel SKUDDER (GBR) showing his newly acquired boat speed in the lighter conditions and rounded the windward mark first, but were unable to hold of Teborek and Donahue downwind. Noel BULTER (IRL) pushed Skudder and Hill hard up through out the rest of the race.

Race 3 had no more wind. So starting proved just as lengthy with Teborek again showing excellent boat speed in the light conditions. The chasing pack contained Marcus SPILLANE (IRL) and Martin Joesbury (GBR) both recovering from a second race BFD. Skudder recorded a fourth to put him second over night.
